An
observation deck is an elevated
sightseeing platform usually situated upon a tall architectural structure such as an
observation tower. Fitted with railings or fencing for safety, observation decks are sometimes enclosed from weather, as many skyscraper decks, and may include
coin operated telescopes for viewing distant features.
List of public observation decks
The
List of public observation decks identifies
observation towers with levels greater than 20 metres (66 ft) above the natural feature (e.g., mountain) on which the tower is constructed. The sortable list also includes skyscrapers, dams, and bridges
with observation levels above the surface below and which allow public use for sightseeing. Until successively surpassed, the tallest observation decks were the 1793
Puente Nuevo bridge, the 1889
Eiffel Tower, the 1929
Royal Gorge Bridge, the 1931
Empire State Building, the 1972
World Trade Center south tower (420 m deck),, the 1976
CN Tower and the 2008
Shanghai WFC.
